PROTECT Species and Places
WDCS protects individual whales and dolphins. We safeguard their communities and whole species. We defend the places and conditions they need to survive - the places they use for feeding breeding and raising their young, their seasonal migration routes and conditions in which they can thrive.
At a national level we work with individual governments to protect specific species. We also promote co-operation between countries - protecting whales and dolphins and their environment by developing international legal agreements.
With so many vulnerable groups of whales and dolphins around the world, identifying where to spend our energy and money is a critical part of our work.
Whilst all whales and dolphins are important some groups of whales and dolphins stand out for particular attention - perhaps they are acutely endangered, or they play an important role in the lives of local people, acting as ambassadors for whole ecosystems. Our many research and conservation projects are vitally important to the future protection of entire species.
