Shocking Video Released
This video, only previously shown as evidence in the OSHA v. SeaWorld hearings which concluded in November 2011, has been obtained through a FOIA request and is now available for the world to see. The shocking video reveals the near-death experience which occurred in 2006 at SeaWorld in San Diego between Kasatka and trainer Ken Peters.
In the video, Kasatka grabs her trainer's foot and will not let go, dunking him under the water for extended periods of time. Peters, who remains eerily calm, finally manages to free himself, only to have Kasatka charge him over the barrier net. Kasatka, an orca captured from Icelandic waters in 1978, had been separated from her calf, Kalia, and was apparently reacting to her distress calls from an adjoining pool that were heard just prior to the incident.
Judge Ken Welsch, who ruled largely against the company at the November 2011 hearing, called the video "chilling" - More details are provided in DEATH AT SEAWORLD
